The new Curriculum for Wales has Four Core Purposes at its heart

Children will develop skills across all of the Areas of Learning Experience.

Learning is organised into six Areas of Learning Experience (AOLEs)

Within each Area of Learning Experience will be a range of Experiences, Skills and Knowledge to help children realise the four purposes of the Curriculum for Wales.

There are Progression Steps built into the curriculum at ages
- 5
- 8
- 11
- 14
- 16

These Progression Steps support Children to understand their achievements and next steps in learning. There is a recognition that children may have different starting points in their learning and that progress may ‘look different’ for some children.
