On behalf of the governing body of Rhyl High School, I would like to welcome you to our school website. 

Rhyl High School is an English Medium Secondary school providing education for pupils aged 11 to 16. Welsh is taught as a second language to all pupils at both KS3 and KS4.

It was an honour to be appointed The Chair of Governors in October 2019 after being a member of the governing body since 2012. My eldest daughter studied in the school and left with amazing GCSE results in 2016. I also have 2 other children currently in the school.

Whilst a governor at the school, I have watched it grow from strength to strength. 

It has been an interesting few years, being involved in the transfer from the old building into our state of the art school, was a true highlight for me. I was heavily involved in the planning of the creative arts areas, our performance space and recording studio are fantastic facilities. The school has a wide range of facilities enabling us to provide a wide range of options to pupils.

One thing I never would have expected in my first year as The Chair of Governors was the covid-19 pandemic. I have been on hand all the way through this supporting the school leadership team during these unprecedented times.

The key role of the Governing Body is to help establish a strategic framework for the school and also to regularly review the progress being made.

This role is fulfilled by taking three key actions:-

• set aims and objectives for the school

• create policies for the school to achieve those aims and objectives

• set targets by which progress towards the aims and objectives can be measured

It is very important the Governing Body monitors and evaluates progress and to do this successfully we act as a “critical friend”. In doing so the Governing Body provides the Headteacher and the staff with support, advice, guidance and information drawing on its members’ knowledge and experience.

It is The Chair’s responsibility is to ensure that the Governing Body is effective in carrying out this huge responsibility.

Rhyl High School has a very good team of Governors who work extremely hard to ensure that our students have the very best education and learning environment possible. Our Governing Body consists of parents, teachers and representatives of the community with experience in education, finance, local government, commerce and industry etc.

It is a huge responsibility and also a great privilege, to be a governor at Rhyl High School and along with my fellow governors we will continue to be a critical friend and guide Rhyl High School into the future.
