The new curriculum was introduced for primary schools in September 2022 and for secondary schools in September 2023, with full implementation expected by 2026. At Rhyl High School, we have developed, and continue to evolve an engaging and ambitious curriculum for our pupils.

The new curriculum for Wales has Four Core Purposes at its heart

Learning is organised into six Areas of Learning Experience (AOLEs)
Within each Area of Learning Experience will be a range of Experiences, Skills and Knowledge to help children realise the four purposes of the Curriculum for Wales.
Children will develop skills across all of the Areas of Learning Experience.

There are Progression Steps built into the curriculum at ages: 5, 8, 11, 14, 16
These Progression Steps support Children to understand their achievements and next steps in learning. There is a recognition that children may have different starting points in their learning and that progress may ‘look different’ for some children.
